In less than two weeks, hundreds of thousands ravers will make the journey through Death Valley to Las Vegas for Insomniac’s flagship festival – Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, from June 19th – 21st. For the fifth year in a row, EDC Las Vegas will take over the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for three days of some of the world’s best electronic music, featuring over 200 artists spread across seven state-of-the-art stages, jaw-dropping art installations, carnival rides, and a truly immersive experience.
While EDC Las Vegas welcomes over 300,000 festival-goers over the three day festival, thousands more will be in Las Vegas just for EDC Week, which runs from June 16th to June 22nd. Kicking off days before EDC Las Vegas, EDC Week is an official electronic music takeover of Sin City, as nearly all of dance music’s major players, including artists, managers, agents, and label heads, will all be in Las Vegas, not only for EDC Las Vegas, but also for Insomniac’s EDMbiz Conference & Expo.
The 4th annual EDMbiz Conference & Expo kicks off on June 16th, signaling the official start of EDC Week, and runs until June 18th, right up to the start of EDC Las Vegas. While most casual dance music fans will be busy worrying about scheduling conflicts and final outfit tweaks, many of the industry’s most influential and powerful executives and artists will be in the Cosmopolitan hotel discussing the current happenings in dance music through two days of innovative panel discussions and keynote sessions.
Those that don’t have EDC Las Vegas tickets or any interest in attending EDMbiz can look towards Insomniac’s many nightclub events, as some of Sin City’s hottest nightclubs across the strip, like Hakkasan, XS, and Marquee, will all play host to some of dance music’s hottest stars.
With so much to do and so many options to choose from in Las Vegas, we’ve put together an EDC Week guide for Insomniac’s Las Vegas Takeover to help you choose what to attend.
EDMbiz
While most casual electronic music fans will not be attending EDMbiz, Insomniac’s dance music conference will welcome a number of the industry’s power players, including Insomniac CEO, Pasquale Rotella, Head of A&R at Ultra Records, David Waxman, and CEO of Billboard, John Amato, amongst many more.
Since its inception in 2013, EDMbiz has brought together the dance music ecosystem to facilitate positive discussion about the impact of dance music on the community, as well as issues specific to the music industry, including emerging technology, music festivals, branding, licensing, and much more.
This year, EDMbiz will feature 10 unique panel discussions, as well as two keynote sessions, one led by James Barton, President of Electronic Music at Live Nation, and Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com and founder of Downtown Project. Barton was named Rolling Stone’s most influential executive in dance music in 2014 for his work at Live Nation, and previously at Cream. Barton headed the UK club night Cream, which served as the launchpad for careers of dance music legends like Paul Oakenfold and The Chemical Brothers, and evolved it into a global brand, which includes a record label and the iconic Creamfields festival.
EDMbiz’s numerous panel offerings gives attendees a chance to experience the music industry through the perspectives of some of the most involved players, such as dance music duo, Krewella, and KCRW radio personality, Jason Bentley. Those that are attending EDMbiz have a plethora of panel options to choose from, but panels like Future of Dance Music Journalism and the 4th Annual Artist Panel are two that you don’t want to miss.
Badges for EDMbiz are still available for purchase, and you can register for one here.
EDC Week
While EDMbiz takes up most of the days at Las Vegas, there’s no denying that Insomniac knows how to throw a party, and Las Vegas is the perfect city for them. EDC Week offers a number of massive Insomniac-hosted events at the hottest nightclubs in Las Vegas, giving fans a chance to see their favorite artists in a more intimate setting.
Over the course of the week, Las Vegas will be home to over 70 different events, including over 15 daytime events at many of Las Vegas’ hottest day clubs, and plenty of nighttime options to choose from each night. EDC Week officially kicks off on June 16th at the brand new Omnia nightclub in Caesar’s Palace with Afrojack, and it’s a night that you don’t want to miss.
EDC Week offers something for everyone’s taste, as DJs from Tchami, to Duke Dumont, to Alesso will be playing somewhere in Las Vegas. Some EDC Week parties you don’t want to miss include Major Lazer at Encore Beach Club on Thursday, June 18th, as the Diplo-led moombah group has just unveiled their latest album, Peace is the Mission, Loco Dice and Carl Cox, two legends in dance music, playing at Daylight on Sunday, June 21st, and EDX’s NoXcuses pool party at the SLS Foxtail Pool on Monday, June 22nd.
EDC Las Vegas
The culmination of Insomniac’s Las Vegas takeover is EDC Las Vegas, the largest music festival in North America. For three days, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be turned into a fantasy-like carnival, with eight brand new, never-before-seen stages.
This year, the Kinetic Field at EDC Las Vegas will turn into the “Crystal Village,” and while we don’t know what the stage will look like, there’s no doubt that it will be an impressive spectacle. Other stages, like the neonGARDEN and Circuit Grounds, will all be completely revamped, and the 5th edition of EDC Las Vegas is sure to be massive.
