I don’t even know remotely where to start on this EP. Not only was it the VERY first release on OWSLA (the label I have the most respect for in this scene), but it is still to this day one of my favourite EDM releases. Everything about this sound that Porter creates is pure perfection, and when he unleashes tracks like ‘Unison’ and ‘The Seconds’ live, it is possibly one of the most en-captivating moments you’ll ever have at a live show. If you caught Porter’s documentary the other day from his Language mini documentary, then you’ll know that there’s one specific moment in ‘The Seconds’, where Porter is able to manipulate the crowd to his every will, creating a very powerful moment.

Anyway, this EP really blends the perfect balance of aggressive tracks like ‘Spitfire’, ’100% In The Bitch’, and ‘The State’, with euphoric tracks like ‘Unison’, ‘The Seconds’, and ‘Vandalism’. Not to mention there were some very brilliant remixes from the likes of Mikkas, SKiSM, Downlink, Knife Party and Kill The Noise.

All in all this EP was not just a major milestone in Porter’s career but also one in ours, this EP crashed Beatport when it released before holding a spot at the top of the Beatport charts for weeks on end. If this was only his EP, then how can we even begin to imagine how great his album will be.

Anyone that truly knows me understands how important of a song ‘Language’ is to me, and I don’t take mashups lightly at all. This track is absolutely perfect. Troika has a lot of creativity, and a sensibility when it comes to mashups that allows him to blend tracks that shouldn’t work, but they do. Blending the euphoria of ‘Language’ with the funky, soulful vocals of ‘September’ with other supporting vocal samples from Gary Go’s work on ‘Cinema’ and the magnificent vocals from Empire Of The Sun. This mashup is all around a brilliant track, so PLEASE take the moment to give it a heart on HypeM!

Almost a year ago, Porter Robinson, along with Mat Zo and The M Machine embarked on The Language Tour, celebrating Porter’s phenomenal single and heart throbbing anthem’Language’. Not only was this Porter’s first headlining tour, but this was the period in which ‘Easy’ was created with Mat Zo. Anyway, the video below encompasses his tour, which spanned across 30 cities. It’s always fun to see the behind the scenes look at a tour, but I think this is one of my favourites.

If you visit our site regularly you’ve definitely heard of Aylen before and know he’s got skills. This new production further reinforces that with his remix of Say My name, where he shows us his trap side and doesn’t disappoint! Turn this one up and RUN DA TRAP!

Like usual the poster child of electronic dance music Porter Robinson completely destroyed his live set at Electric Daisy Carnival 2013, and we’ve got the full set right here for you to live or relive once again. From start to finish this mix is amazing with Porter throwing down huge tracks from some of the biggest names in house music today. This mix is definitely starting to bring on the FOMO inside of me. Porter Robinson took the stage for his headlining slot at Matador Music Festival in Santa Barbara, California last night at 9:30 and was scheduled to play through until 11:30. The set was laced with heavy electro and many of Porter’s original productions, but at 11 o’clock he came on the microphone saying “I usually never get on the microphone since I like to let the music speak for itself, but I was just told that the cops are going to shut this down in 5 minutes even though I was going to play for another 30. I’ve had such an awesome time and I love all of you for coming out tonight. Before I go, I want to play you guys probably the most important piece of music I’ve ever written. Stay positive”. He proceeded to press play on his world famous track ‘Language’ and the crowd, despite being disappointed by the party getting shut down, was full of good vibes and pure bliss while listening to the song. The song was building to the second drop after Heather Bright’s emotional vocals when all of the sudden pure silence took over. Porter tried to grab the microphone to ask what happened, but that was off too. Everything had been unplugged. EVERYTHING. Porter took to twitter to explain what happened from his point of view after the fact. All I can say is, having been in the crowd myself, we were absolutely not rioting. Not a chance.

The police originally showed up because of multiple sound complaints.

If you tuned into the live stream of UMF 15 with us yesterday then you already know every set was immaculate. From Flux vs Doctor P, to Porter, to Hardwell every single set was musical perfection at its finest. There really isn’t any other way to describe it. I’ve seen Porter live a few time but this was probably the best set of his career, so far. Porter has a massive album in the works so naturally he graced us with a few ID’s in this mix. Overall yesterday was just amazing and I am so happy to share all of this with you. We will have plenty more for you today also so stay tuned for the day 3 of Ultra Music Festival Weekend 1!

Wow. Today as a whole stood out as one of the best days of music I have ever experienced, definitely up there with Camp Bisco this summer. Something about being able to turn around at any given time and see a gorgeous mountain backdrop makes it a really special experience. I don’t even know where to begin to describe how incredible today was, so I guess I’ll just go chronologically.

When we arrived (and by we I mean my buddy Connor, one of our Campus Reps who is here covering the event with me), it was a gorgeous afternoon with that perfect blend of sun and snow that only seems to exist in Colorado. We got into the festival relatively quickly, and a band called Cold River City was playing on the main stage. They had a really chill reggae vibe, and were perfect for the start of the day. We got settled, hit up one of the food vendors (all of which are amazing), and then headed to the Groove Tent to see Robotic Pirate Monkey. I’ve always kind of dug Robotic Pirate Monkey because they always keep things interesting, but today they really cemented themselves as a group that I really like. Their style has changed drastically since the last release of theirs I checked out, and they were playing really bass-heavy trap and reggae-infused dubstep. As you all well know, we here at ThisSongSlaps love nothing more than trap and dubstep, especially when they’re bass heavy, and we’re pretty big fans of reggae as well. Overall, I was really impressed with Robotic Pirate Monkey and can’t wait for their new music to get released.

After Robotic Pirate Monkey, we caught the tail end of The Floozies’ set, which was really good as well. They have a sort of live drumstep feel reminiscent of Conspirator, and they were very solid overall. Next up was Zion I, who were on my radar because of the incredible Bassnectar Remix of their track ‘Human.’ They were really solid, and did some crazy freestyle rapping which blew our minds a little bit.

Porter Robinson's crowd

Unfortunately, we had to leave Zion I after only a short time, because let’s be real, what kind of self-respecting EDM blog would miss even a second of a Porter Robinson set? Certainly not us. Obviously, his set was amazing, and full of crazy edits and bootlegs and stuff. Pretty much everything he played alternated between euphoric synth breakdowns and insane dry electrohouse drops. Needless to say, it was just as awesome as anyone would have expected it to be.

After Porter, we had the fortune of catching a little bit of Orchard Lounge, who are an incredible DJ group that played deep house. Their mixing was absolutely flawless, just like the last time I saw them, and it was very easy to lose oneself in the vibey grooves they had going on.

Next up was Krewella. For some reason I never was hugely into Krewella before today, but oh my god, their set was ridiculous. I was blown away by how much energy they had and how perfectly twisted the basslines to all of their tracks were. They seriously earned my respect over the course of that hour, where I found myself going nuts in a sea of apparently seizure-prone bass heads. The highlight for me was definitely their remix of the Knife Party’s ‘Fire Hive,’ which is obscenely filthy and had me completely lost in flailing limbs to the beat. I wish I had been wearing a GoPro or something so I could show you how insane the crowd was. Overall, I would put their set as one of the best I’ve ever seen that wasn’t by either Pretty Lights or Bassnectar. They also had a whole DnB/Drumstep section towards the end that had me grooving like I was at a ska show back in high school. On top of all that, they brought a ton of big balloons, which are pictured above. You really can’t go wrong with big balloons, it was a nice touch.

After Krewella came Big Gigantic. I didn’t think I could possibly be more blown away by a performance than I had just been by Krewella’s, but I turned out to be incorrect. I’ve always been a fan of Big Gigantic’s fusion of live instrumentation and electronics, and the sax and drum playing are both phenomenal, but I was never a huge fan of their production style. Although I really dug them for the above reasons, I always felt like the produced aspects of their show left something to be desired. It turned out that that something was heavy dubstep basslines, and holy shit did they find it. Their new music was all beyond words incredible. I am insanely excited to hear their next release, and I think it will be a game changer for jazz/dubstep fusion. They played a cover of ‘Thrift Shop’ by Macklemore mashed up with their remix of Aloe Blacc’s ‘I Need A Dollar,’ which went together perfectly. I really, really hope that that gets released, as it was phenomenal. The solo Dominic took towards the end felt like it was channeling Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and some kind of demon all at once, and the result was a burst of primal bass-infused energy that was like nothing I have ever seen before. Their new light show was also way beyond what it was the ladt time I saw them, and the picture above doesn’t do it justice (cut me some slack, it was taken with my phone and we were towards the back of the crowd because we stayed for all of Krewella). After all of that, they ended it with fireworks, which was also pretty sweet.

Overall, Day 1 of Snowball was absolutely amazing and I can’t wait for the next 2. The festival is extremely well-run, the staff are all super friendly, the lineup and setup are amazing, and the location is gorgeous and absolutely perfect. It was funny to me, as someone from New Jersey, to be at a concert where everyone was wearing boots, gloves, hats, and winter coats. I’ve never seen anything like it, and the vibe was really awesome. For those of you who are from the East Coast like I am, I highly recomment you make this pilgrimage one day. There’s something about Colorado that just makes it like no other place in the world. The people are amazing, the landscape is gorgeous, the music scene is incredible, and on top of all that, there is world class skiing and snowboarding right down the road.

Stay tuned for more recaps the next two days! Who did those of you who are also here like best tonight?

You all should remember Ennui by now. We posted his beautiful remix of Clarity last week and it got a ton of buzz. So again he comes back with an other amazing remix, this time, of Porter Robinson’s The Seconds. Keeping the main lyrics in the song, Ennui changes up the drop a little and adds on to what was already an amazing track. You gotta keep an eye on this kid because he’s going places. This song was widely recognized by both 3LAU and Madeon which is saying a lot for an up and coming producer. Check out the stream below and grab the free download!

Ever since Vicetone posted the preview for their ‘Reason’ remix on SoundCloud I have been giddy with anticipation. Well the moment has finally arrived and it was well worth the wait! The DJ duo known as Vicetone took Nervo’s original and remixed it into a crazy catchy progressive house track that is sure to get you up on your feet. Start your Tuesday the right way and turn your speakers up loud when you press play!

Hook N Sling vs Nervo – Reason (Vicetone Remix)

Over the past few months, CHANGE has become one of my favourite progressive house guys. While he’s still developing a fan base, his discography never ceases to amaze me. Seriously, every one of his bootlegs, remixes, and even originals are incredible. This remix of ‘Easy’ is magnificent, from breakdown, to drop, this tune packs a big bounce.

Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – Easy (CHANGE Bootleg)

The lovely ladies at Jane Doze have had my attention for a while now. Their debut mixtape, Girls Talk, was excellent and featured a plethora of top 40 samples and pop influenced EDM, but this latest mash takes the cake. As their sound seems to have matured, their mashes begin to feature more EDM, which is really exciting as a blogger and a fan. This edit features Deniz Koyu’s big track, ‘Follow You’, as well as vocal assistance from Foxes and Youngbloog Hawke.

Zedd x Foxes x Deniz Koyu x Wynter Gordon x Youngblood Hawke – Follow Running Foxes (Jane Doze Mashup)

I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Kaskade’s mashups are legendary, and the latest follows suit. Unfortunately, Kaskade is low on mashups and when I suggested releasing new ones, he told me they were hiding under his bed, so what can you do? Anyway, ‘Surrender Apogee’ works really well and while I was doubting myself on whether or not it seemed progressive, it grew on me to say the least.

Kaskade vs. Hard Rock Sofa & Swanky Tunes – Surrender Apogee (Kaskade Mash Up)

Last but not least, we have ‘Loving You’, by The Madison. First and foremost this is by far my pick of the week. This track is a lot more of an oldschool house track with a great bouncy beat. Not only does this track display a great amount of soul but it represents love although it lacks lyrics. It doesn’t even phase me that this track lacks vocals, the music and the beat speaks for itself.
