Australian duo Empire Of The Sun touched down this past Sunday May 18th at Atlanta’s prominent venue, Coca Cola Roxy. The duo, made of vocalist Luke Steele and producer Nick Littlemore, brought their theatrical sound, rich community of Empyreans, and striking aesthetic.
My friend and I had been planning on making it out to this tour date for months. The show did not disappoint and we were blown away by the stage production. The massive human elements transported us to a new world. A world where we explored together through songs were grew up listening to. The first time I heard “Walking On A Dream” was in a hotel room in London back in 2009. We were on family vacation and staying at the heart of the city. We turned on the TV to be confronted with the peculiar visuals that make of the music video for their most successful single. I have been hooked ever since.
The duo played all the hits. “Walking On A Dream” and “We Are The People” from their debut album. “Alive” from the second album. “High And Low” from their third album. This song was a peak moment of the night. “Friends” was another special moment. You could feel the connection of the people in the crowd when this song was played out.
Did you know Nick Littlemore is the electronic dance music producer PNAU? How about the fact that Luke Steele is the vocalist in the alt-rock band The Sleepy Jackson? These guys are full of surprises. Make sure to catch them if you get the chance.
