[Exclusive] WHO THE F**K IS EDDIE?

If you’re a fan of menacing electronic music or tapped into the world of Rezz and her power HypnoVizion imprint, EDDIE needs no introduction but the question that is frequently asked whenever his name pops up is, “who the f**k is EDDIE?” (I also mean this literally, this question pops up as part of his visuals when you catch him live.)

This Australian-born, LA-based has created own lane in the scene with his often haunting a relentless style of production that invites the listener into the dark for a high-octane and truly adrenaline pumping experience. Plus, no genre is off limits whenever he decides to lock into a studio session.

Still buzzing off the release of his recent reunion with Rezz coming in the form of “Maleficent,” we took the time to chat with EDDIE down at Miami Music Week ahead of his at the HypnoVizion showcase!

TSS: You’ve been pumping out music for about seven years now; how would you say your sound has evolved since first popping onto the scene?

EDDIE: it’s been that long? Sheesh, I would say touring has helped shape what my sound has become, testing stuff live & seeing what I enjoy out of production, no matter the genre I produced it always had a touch of darkness in it and I think I full dived into that with what I’m doing now and it’s really working to my vision!

TSS: DJing or production – which came first?

EDDIE: production, was never a dj still am not a super crazy dj, I just spend hours on my track list making sure I have epic custom edits that you won’t hear in other sets! But yeah production came first for sure!

TSS: When it comes to the bass music scene as a whole, what are some changes you’ve noticed over the years?

EDDIE: I’ve always had a toe in the scene, but never really involved in it fully like I am now…I would say the open mindness that everyone has to playing multiple genres in their sets? That’s been sick to see and something I always want to do forever (as long as the sound and energy is right)

TSS: What hardware and software do you use these days?

EDDIE: 0 hardware & lots of serum HAHA, I love working in audio so I consolidate most things I make or find in serum and then go absolutely ham on those sound, experimenting with firmant filters & distortions!

TSS: Speaking of production, what’s your creative process during a studio session?

EDDIE: Like I mentioned before I love messing around in serum and finding specific sounds I want or a bass hit I want to use and then I’ll consolidate it and play with it in audio, I work in audio over midi as much as I can, I feel the most creative that way!

TSS: What’s your process when cooking up an EDDIT?

EDDIE: Epic question!! So I write EDDIT ideas down in my notes and there’s like 100 (I will never get them all done) and then I gradually pick one to work on see how it flows 70% they aren’t good ideas HAHA but the ones that are I fkn love, I just buy the songs on Beatport and flip them essentially!

TSS: When you have a rough week or hit a wall creatively, how do you get back on track?

EDDIE: Video games usually works the best for a week, combined with walks and coffee runs & going to a art gallery. Things that’ll help you clear your mind but also keep you creative!

TSS: What words of wisdom do you have for up-and-coming producers looking to make their presence felt who may be overwhelmed by the current state of the music industry?

EDDIE: I genuinely think it’s an extremely hard time to launch a new project, just my opinion. Not saying it’s impossible by any means but it’s tough! I think having an extremely strong and smart identity/brand/sound is crucial and will save you years of persuading/educating fans & promoters about your project, also helps build community too!

TSS: Tell us a little about your recent reunion with Rezz coming in the form of “Maleficent” and how that one came together.

EDDIE: I love Rezz, she’s the best! We work together very easily and the tracks we’ve done have come together within days, this one was no different. We’ve worked on alot of music and not all of them have seen the light of day, but that’s what fun about it!

TSS: How does it feel to continue to have releases on the powerhouse dance music imprint that is HypnoVizion?

EDDIE: They’ve been amazing, I love the whole team there and what they’re doing for our music scene, genuinely the only label that releases this specific sound in my opinion, I’m honored to be a marque artist of theirs.

TSS: Playing in a massive warehouse during Miami Music Week for the HypnoVizion showcase, how did it feel to have that one pop up on the schedule? That’s the type of environment where your music really thrives.

EDDIE: I was SO HYPE, Miami isn’t really a HOT spot for bass music throughout the rest of the regular season, but I love Miami and I love playing there when I get the chance, crowds & culture are so dope, I’m extremely excited for this one not going to lie!

TSS: Now that 2024 is underway, what does EDDIE have in store for the future?

EDDIE: Launched the year with shows at academy, wamu, echo stage and just announced Lollapalooza too, so show wise it’s been INSANE? And I just released my latest song with Rezz + many more epic records to come this year. Essentially the rest of the yesr, people are going to find out WHO THE F**K EDDIE IS!
