[TSS Interview] Shermanology Discusses “Motown Philly,” 2024 Plans & More

Shermanology has been a classic electronic music act for over a decade now and a name that dance music veterans are likely familiar with. The brother and sister duo out of Curaçao first exploded into the scene with “Blessed” in 2011 and then followed that up with the mega-hit “Can’t Stop Me” with Afrojack. Since then, the duo has released a slew of records across various labels such as Spinnin’, Wall Recordings, Armada, and more. Their sound has evolved over the years as the dance music landscape has changed and we got to speak to them about that evolution and what they have in store in 2024.

TSS: It’s been awhile since you last played in Arizona. Are you excited to be back and playing Body Language festival amongst this awesome lineup of fellow house artists?

Shermanology: We are very exited to be back in Arizona! The last time the energy was great. We are sure it will be even crazier than the last time !Thank you for having us.

TSS: Do you prepare your set differently for a festival curated around a certain genre versus an all encompassing festival?

Shermanology: No, we don’t. We go with the flow. On the spot we decide which way to go. It spoils the fun if we have to do that so that is one thing we never do. Once we are there we see what the crowd reacts best to and then we go from there

TSS: Do you feel the vibe and energy from the crowd is different at these festivals?

Shermanology: Yes,there is a different vibe from the crowd in every area/country/island, it is a very funny thing! The only thing that is for sure is that people want to party and we are literally here for it! We are going to bring positive vibes, ready to meet everyone who supports us in what we do, that is our vibe.

TSS: Tell us about your last single that dropped, “Motown Philly.”

Shermanology: Motown Philly is a collab between Boys to Men and the Shermans. We are such fans of them and their artistry. Andy kept the essential parts of the original and then Shermanized it!

TSS: Your sound has evolved a lot since you first started out. How has that progression come naturally over time?

Shermanology: That is absolutely true, we went back to the lab to create what we like and also to go back to where we started. We had fun doing what we did but it was time to develop our own sound and go back to the more soulful vocals that we love , and implement everything that inspires us.It took a while, but we had fun with it!

TSS: Do you feel any nostalgia for the sound you first started out with and for songs like “Can’t Stop Me?”

Shermanology: Of course, this song did a lot of great things for us. We had a great time then. We saw a lot of the world and met a lot of wonderful people along the way

TSS: Can you tell us about what we can expect from you at the festival?

Shermanology: I think we just go in to have fun with y’all and we will give it all we’ve got. It’s important to try to become one with the crowd. And try to build a party together. Soundwise it’s a combination of soulful vocals and baselines with a Caribbean twist.

TSS: What else do you have in store for 2024?

Shermanology: We are working on a lot of new music. So figuring out what the next song is going to be after “U Got Me.” Some collabs that we are very excited about. Just mixing a lot of different musical flavors. We are also working on some new editions of our own party D’EAUPE. That we are going to start with very soon.
