Wuki has been a mainstay in the electronic music scene for years now drawing fans from all sides of the aisle with his eclectic sound. When listening to him live, that shines through as he takes the audience through a high-energy journey through different offerings while staying true to his sound. When talking to him ahead of his Goldrush set, he told us he just wanted to “party” and he certainly did that. He also had some other things to say regarding playing the festival and his new music so keep on reading to get the latest from Wuki himself.
TSS: You’re here in Phoenix for Goldrush. I know you are out here pretty often with Relentless Beats, so what does coming to the festival tonight and being back here in Phoenix mean to you?
Wuki: I’ve always just loved playing Phoenix. It’s a great scene, great crowd and this is actually my first time playing Goldrush so I’m pretty excited to see what the crowd is like, to throw down, give it my all, and party.

TSS: So what does partying mean to you?
Wuki: Just having a good time honestly. I’m not really the biggest drinker or partier I guess in the common sense but I like to have a good time and laugh. I mean, kind of the coolest part of touring is seeing people you know and meeting people you’ve talked to on the internet for so long so that’s always fun. Like, I was just hanging out with DJ Susan and we had never met in real life and we just hung out for like 20 minutes having a great time.
TSS: So you just recently dropped your new song “We Like To Wuki” with Vengaboys and Yo Majesty, so do you think of the meme of Vengaboys back in the day with their songs “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!” and “We Like to Party,” so how did that come together?
Wuki: That track has a crazy story, honestly. You’re right, it is a meme in a way because that song really, I made this edit a long time ago, like five years ago with that track and the two tracks that are mashed up in the remix and it’s been this crazy long journey, it was played out by every DJ ever, in 1001tracklists for like five years, one of the top mashups ever and Vengaboys hit me up to put it out for real and I was just like “of course!” and it was just kind of perfect for me and my brand as I just love fun stuff like 90s dance music and I just don’t want to take myself too seriously and just like to have fun.
TSS: You’re also in the middle of a tour right now so how is that going and how does playing a festival maybe differ from your regular tour set?
Wuki: It’s been great. I am just lucky to get these shows in general so you know, the tour, the festivals in between, it’s great. Playing a festival is a nice little breakup because I get to do some different things during the set that I maybe wouldn’t do during my club sets and I also get to do some different things during a club set that I wouldn’t do at a festival. I like both atmospheres and they’re both just cool and I’m happy to do it.
TSS: For those who are missing out on your set at the festival or are looking for a recap, what can you tell people about your set that you’ll be playing?
Wuki: “Wuki’s set was the most epic set in the f-ing world!!!” No, I don’t know, I am not a traditional artist. I don’t stick to one lane, I don’t stick to one genre so I think coming to my set is like an experience and you have to be open-minded, you have to be into just kind of whatever, and I like to have fun and that’s my vibe. Hopefully people dig it and that’s what I’m trying to do.

TSS: Anything else that you’d like to add?
Wuki: Just stream my new single with Vengaboys and check out my new single coming out soon called “The Edge of Seventeen” which is actually a cover of Stevie Nicks on October 21 via Thrive and will be a part of an EP.
TSS: What else can people expect from you the rest of the year and going into 2023?
Wuki: I have the whole Instagram “Beats I Can’t Release” series so a lot of those are actually going to be cleared and released for real so they’ll be ‘Beats I Can Release.’
And that was all from Wuki. You can tell he just likes to have fun and help you all have a good time who are listening to his music. So check out his new song “Edge of Seventeen” when it releases later this week on the 21st and all else that Wuki has going on!
