When it comes to the world of dubstep, Infekt is one name that needs no introduction when its to avid bass music fans.
Still buzzing off the release of “Monkey Dance” which was featured on the colossal Disciple Records’ Alliance Vol. 7 compilation, the German bass enhisust has unleashed his 6-track Breakout EP to open 2022.
Wasting no time to make his presence felt as we enter the new year, Infekt took the time to deliver a track-by-track breakdown of his latest offering. Check it out below!
On the impressive variety of offerings on the Breakout EP, Infekt says: “Experimenting with different styles, genres and techniques is the key to my progress; it is what keeps music production fun for me. In the past, I often haven’t felt confident to release these experiments, but with this EP I’m trying to break that pattern! This is why I titled the EP “Breakout EP”—getting over some of my insecurities and releasing different styles, while still implementing a lot of the sound that I’m known for, and that I have grown into. Very proud to present this EP!”

“The amazing feedback on ‘Introspection’ inspired me to start this EP with a melodic track about breaking away from what holds you back from expressing yourself: Your self! Nothing and no one can free you from those chains other than YOU.”
“The title track of the EP starts off with a smooth intro to transition from the melodic first track, and then quickly shifts into something more dirty, grimy; getting the journey going with a big burst of energy. Watch out for the switch on this one!”
“This is one of my personal favourite tracks. If you’ve seen my Q&A answers before, you’ll know that I’m especially proud of my track ‘Leech Beam,’ and I see this one as the spiritual successor to that in a way. It’s very much inspired by the futuristic anti-gravity racing games I love.”
“More recently, I’ve been a big fan of the heavier side of Dubstep, so with this track I wanted to see if it’s possible to fusion the brutal, machine-gun sound with my own. This is one of the tracks on the EP of which I’m especially curious to hear what you all think!”
“‘Orm’ got its name from a series of audiobooks I’ve been listening to. I’m a big fan of the fantasy genre, and “Orm” is the name of a dragon in Earthsea. The bassline of this track is very flow and energy-focused, and I can’t wait to play it out on a big system!”
“Closing this EP with another experiment—Drum and Bass! I listen to a whole lot of DnB in my free time, but I’ve always felt intimidated by how well-produced everything is within the genre. My past attempts at making it had always led to a lot of frustration, but this time I didn’t let frustration stop me and I kept practicing until I came up with something I was happy with. This is the result!”
