Almost a week into the new year and I still can’t stop playing this new Jay Critch. A part of me is compelled by the positivity and optimism this tape brought. As opposed to looking back and shaking his head, the Brooklyn rapper doesn’t falter and delivers a work of art. It’s been two weeks since the tape dropped and as far as I can see it still isn’t getting the love it deserves. At this point how can you not consider Critch one of the most slept on?
After dropping one of the most popular tracks of 2018, “Ego”, XXL snubbed him of a spot on their freshman list. He followed up in 2019 with another heater in “Cameras” and still nothing. In between and even before he’s remained consistent, releasing multiple different projects that were all solid. Which leads me to today; the seemingly unfazed emcee hasn’t stopped putting in work so of course he’s back with another one.
His most recent body of work, Signed With Love, is an 11 track album that puts his skillset on full display. One of the main things I credit Jay for is his range. Certain songs are gritty and raw while others are more chill and emotional. My personal favorite is “Been That” because it feels like a response to the naysayers but his delivery shows that he couldn’t actually care less. This one definitely goes front to back though, I suggest letting it play and stop sleeping on the dude this year!
Signed With Love is out now on all major platforms, grab your copy via Spotify or iTunes.
