TSS: Introduce yourself. What do you want people to know about Cyran?

Cyran: I’m a singer/songwriter that makes electronic music. I have been making music for a while now. I play the piano and ukulele too. I really enjoy mixing in instruments such as the ukulele, piano, or even steel drums when making a track. Most recently, I even started singing on my songs. By writing my own lyrics and then singing them, I feel like I am able to create songs that really reflect my mood and life, which I think people will find somewhat relatable.

TSS: You graduated from college with a degree in marketing. How and why did you decide to pursue music rather than marketing?

Cyran: I decided to pursue music rather than marketing because I feel like music is somewhat time sensitive. After getting my degree in marketing I did an internship working at Skrillex’s record label OWSLA for about a year. While working there I hung out with a lot of musicians around the same age as me. Hanging with them really inspired me to pursue music instead of marketing. I feel really creative at the moment and I want to write as much music as a can.

TSS: Who are some of your musical influences?

Cyran: I feel like I have two styles of inspiration. The first style would have to alternative/indie. Acts such as Boy Pablo, Cuco, Roy Blair and The Killers really excite me and remind that good music should make you feel a certain way. The second style of inspiration, of course, is diverse electronic acts such as Ookay, Yellow Claw and NGHTMRE.

TSS: What has your time at Circus Records been like? How has it been working with Flux Pavilion?

Cyran: My time with Circus Records has been great. Every year things keep getting more exciting. The team over there is very helpful. Working with Flux Pavilion is awesome too because he inspiring creatively and intellectually. He is very well-spoken and he inspires me to create music that is deeper than just a dance track.

TSS: You’re playing Circus Records’ 10 Year Anniversary Tour this weekend. What can fans expect from your set?

Cyran: My set on the 10 years of Circus Tour is going to be very diverse. I am probably going to play a bunch of different styles from moombahton to trap to future bass. A lot of my set reflects my past few years creating electronic music.  I think it also will give the audience a chance to see where I aiming to take my music.

TSS: Do you have any pre- or post-show rituals? If so, what are they?

Cyran: I get pretty bad migraines, usually weekly, so my ritual will probably be to hang low and try not to get one.

TSS: What was the inspiration behind your new EP, ‘Vacation Away?’

Cyran: The inspiration for ‘Vacation Away’ came from me wanting to try something new. I had written the music first and decided to lay some vocals down on the tracks. I had a lot of fun creating the songs and it all kind of came together over the course of a year-or-so. Each song on the EP reflects a bit of a different mood and I think that’s what makes them relatable.

TSS: What can your fans expect from you for the rest of 2019?

Cyran: I am going to be writing a lot of electronic music and singing on it.  I will probably try to put together another set of tunes real soon and get another EP out before 2020. I am looking to focus a bit more on my live shows too. Probably play a bunch more shows before the year-end!
