Luttrell’s Debut Album “Into Clouds” Is A Melodic And Groovy Listening Adventure

One of my favorite artists of last year has to be Luttrell. The former member of The M Machine, this Cali native has been making a name for himself in the world of Deep House. He’s been a mainstay at Above & Beyond’s famed Anjunabeats label as well as the brother label for all things deep, Anjunadeep. Since changing his sound from hard Electro to soft House music, he’s been producing some amazing tunes such as Need You, Contact, Intergalatic Plastic and his remix of Aba. 2019 saw the release of his debut artist album called Into Clouds, where Luttrell explains that the deeply-personal 10-track LP is about “doing your best to recognize and appreciate the beauty – both in the good times and the bad.”

The album starts off with a soothing tune called After All. The angelic female vocal that stands out feels comforting and the gentle sounds blend well and provide a smooth intro for the listener. Out Of Me has been a favorite tune of mine of his with the melody and vocal sample he uses, along with the arrangement of the song as well. Another song I liked is the title track, Into Clouds. This has a more club feel to it and sounds a bit more ominous than the rest but is as infectious. Windowscene has been a tune he’s been playing since I heard it at ABGT250 in 2017. This one is more different right off the bat as the kick drums aren’t the typical 4/4 on the floor. What makes the tune stands out is the lead as it has a unique sound to it.

This album has been an incredible piece of work by Luttrell. His sound design is fantastic as there were so many sounds that were intricate. This album demonstrates Luttrell’s knack for emotive production, while his infectious club tracks showcase his commanding dancefloor sound. Speaking of the album, Luttrell explains: “I think each song has a message, a vibe or a feeling that each and every one of us can relate to on some level. Some moments are flying high above it all, some are dreamy or whimsical, and some moments are more pensive, delicate or even vulnerable. I want listeners to make this album their own and attribute their personal experiences and feelings to the music.”
