California duo Tastytreat have just released a new project, their Wayward EP, via Buygore. The three-track-release is much more aggressive and hard hitting compared to their prior EP, NeonAffect, showing off their versatility as a production team. The first single “My Crew” came out a few weeks back and bounces back and forth between dubstep meets trap with a hip-hop lead vocal, but the two newer tracks featured on Wayward show another side. While “Struggle” featuring Gino Driggs and YLTI has a similar hybrid approach that blends together hip-hop and trap/dubstep, the production is much more hip-hop oriented and upbeat. My personal favorite track on the EP is the final song and only instrumental featured on it, but “Ascension” stands out the most to me. While the other two tracks are appealing I almost feel as though the vocals take away the attention from the potent production style the Tastytreat crew continue to create.
