All Good Records has quickly cemented itself as one of dance music’s most innovative and forward-thinking imprints, as it features a slew of unique artists like its founder, GRiZ, as well as the rising three-piece electronica band, SunSquabi. The Colorado-based outfit has undergone nothing short of an impressive musical resurgence since their debut SquabCat EP, and they’re continuing their meteoric rise with their latest effort – their Odyssey EP – that captures SunSquabi’s signature jazz and blues roots with some serious MoTown funk.
The EP is nothing like what you’d expect from a dance music imprint, as it sits firmly in the live space, but SunSquabi deftly manages to deliver a heavy dose of vibey goodness. SunSquabi sets the stage with he lead track off of the EP, “Keep It Real,” laying down a smooth melody with clear jazz influences, while on “Odyssey,” they bring on GRiZ to really bring the funk. Check out the full EP below, and see what SunSquabi had to say about “Tequila Sunrise” below.
“Tequila Mockingbird” is the longest song on the album, so we really wanted to send it into space with a big solo in the middle. We’ve known Dom since our first show at Global Dance Red Rocks in 2011. We caught up at The Floozies show last year, it just worked out that we both had time and we had this song completely finished to work on together. He is a hell of a player and a master at telling a story with a solo.”
