[TSS Interview] Tony Junior Discusses Clothing Line, Working With Tiesto And More

Tony Junior ended 2015 on a high note with the release of him and Tiesto’s song, “Get Down.” Now, with a song that hit #1 on Beatport’s top 100 and his own clothing line, Tony Junior is making a big name for himself. The Dutch DJ from Utrecht, Netherlands began his musical career as a drummer in a band and then made his EDM debut in 2010 with the release of “Loesje,” featuring Nicolas Nox,

We recently had the pleasure of chatting with Tony Junior about his clothing line, what it was like working with Tiesto and much more.

TSS: You began your career as a drummer in rock bands. What was the hardest part about making the transition from rock to dance music? Was it difficult to adjust to making music alone, rather than in a group?

Tony Junior: It was actually really easy to be honest. I wanted to create music on my own instead of in a group, so being alone in the studio wasn’t a problem for me.

TSS: Your style is known for being “a mix of electro and hard house.” What factors influence your sound and how would you describe it, using just one word?

Tony Junior: ROCKNROLLHOUSE, haha! My influences include everything that I see and hear. This can vary from The Foo Fighters to Limp Bizkit. I combine those influences with the house genre that is popular right now, and then I mix that together into my own sound.

TSS: If you could work with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Tony Junior: Jim Morrison! He’s one of my biggest inspirations and I would love to work with him!

TSS: While youre known for your music, you also have your own clothing line. What made you want to branch into apparel and what or who influenced this particular line?

Tony Junior: I just wanted to create a community for people. This doesn’t restrict to just music, but also involves clothing. I would like to have my own label in the future and work with young talent.

TSS: You ended 2015 by releasing “Get Down” with Tiesto. What kind of experience did you have working with him?

Tony Junior: To work with someone that I have always looked up to, and still look up to, is amazing!

TSS: How did you celebrate when your collaboration with Tiesto became #1 on the Beatport top 100?

Tony Junior: I went to our favorite sushi restaurant in The Netherlands with my father, girlfriend and some close friends.

TSS: Youre currently touring in Europe, do you have any preshow or post show rituals? If so, what are they?

Tony Junior: I listen to Dutch music when I’m taking a shower in the hotel. I used to smoke a cigarette on the balcony before the show, but I stopped smoking two weeks ago.

TSS: 2015 was a huge year for you, what can we expect from you in 2016?

Tony Junior: 2016 started with my number 1 hit with Tiesto, and I already have 3 tracks planned to release within the next 5 months! So, A LOT!
