[TSS Exclusive Interview] Amine Edge & DANCE

[TSS Exclusive Interview] Amine Edge & DANCE
Josh Duham

As they make their way around the U.S. yet again, Amine Edge & DANCE were kind enough to sit down and give TSS the scoop on a few things. If you’ve never heard of these guys then I feel bad for you. They’re some of the most innovative artists on the dance music circuit and always throw the dopest sets. Get to know them a little more below and check out some of their latest mixes and gigs on their Soundcloud.

TSS: What are your favorite hiphop records right now? Any plans to remix them?

AE: My favorite is Drake & Future’s “Jumpman.” I don’t want to remix every hip hop track that I love. A little advice for the beginner who think they can remix everything sometimes it’s better to keep stick with the original. :)

DANCE : It’s still Days Before Rodeo by Travis Scott. For me, that’s the best album of all time (even though it’s actually a mixtape). I’d love to remix “Mamacita” or “Drugs You Should Try It,” but unfortunately, I don’t know Travis and I don’t think that he knows us so it’s hard. I hope that one day we’ll make it happen.

TSS: Outside of hiphop and house music, what are your guilty pleasure genres that you draw musical inspiration from?

AE: Everything! When music is good, it’s good. Good music has no genre. I’m not listening to only hip hop and house. In fact, I barely listen to house music, because I want to keep it for the dance floor. I listen mostly to R&B, hiphop, disco, funk and soul.

DANCE : R&B is actually my real passion. Especially the good stuff from ’94 to ’04. I still listen to R.Kelly, Faith Evans, Donnell Jones, Joe, Jaheim, Jagged Edge everyday. I’m very nostalgic of this golden era of the genre. Thank God, good R&B has been back for like 3 years now. Guys like PARTYNEXTDOOR, Tory Lanez or Bryson Tiller are incredible too, they make my life complete.

TSS: You guys are some of the most fashionable artists in dance music, any plans to dabble in the fashion industry and start your own line/brand?

AE: Oh, thank you! We try make merch first to please our fans, but a brand would be very cool to do as well. We’ve thought about it before, but it would just be a hell of a job.

DANCE : First, I gotta say thank you, I appreciate it. Yes definitely, for example, I’d love to speak about styles / clothes in with a fashion magazine at some point. I’ve been crazy about clothes since I was 5 or 6. I’m always helping my friends so they can dress better, I’m kind of a fashion coach. [laughs] I really love it.

TSS: Who would you put at the pinnacle of g-house production right now?

Amine Edge & DANCE : Honestly, we don’t know because we don’t play out too much G-
House. We like artists who have many different styles like we do.

TSS: Who do you think are some of the top hip hop producers right now? Why?

Amine Edge & DANCE : Vinylz is number 1 for us right now. He’s produced a lot of big hits over the last 2 years. Every beat that he makes is special. He has got this amazing 808 groove, no one can beat him. Gravez also really impresses us. The way he mixes his drums with his basslines is incredible. But there are so many others very talented guys who we love like 40, Metro Boomin, London On Da Track, Boi1da, etc.

TSS: How do U.S. shows/tours differ from Europe and other music scenes? Do you like the U.S. better because of it’s musical influences?

Amine Edge & DANCE : In the US, EDM is king. It’s the number 1 genre for dance music out there right now, so it can be difficult for underground DJs like us. Regardless, we still have a solid fanbase who come to every one of our shows in the US and show us love. Gig after gig we gain fans, which is pretty awesome. We also play the main stages at big EDM festival like EDC to try to educate and show kids different genres of music. We don’t pretend to be super heroes or anything, we just try to change things with our music instead of shitting on EDM on socials or complaining about competition.

TSS: Who would win in a fight between you two?

AE: I’d deffo destroy his pretty mother fucking face xD.

DANCE : Obviously him. He just has to jump on me and he will squash me [laughs]

TSS: What’s the craziest shit that happened in Ibiza this summer?

AE: My Ibiza summer was very quiet this year. When I wasn’t playing a gig, I was mostly just chilling under the sun at the pool.

DANCE : I’d love to answer and tell you the truth but honestly I can’t. It’d be bad for everybody. [laughs] Like Vegas, what happens in Ibiza stays in Ibiza.

TSS: Drake or Meek Mill?

AE: DRAKE with all capital letters. That guy is a genius. He always finds the best melodies and his flow is second to none. While most rappers have the same flow all there life, DRAKE is like 10,000 rappers in one with all his different flows. Also, you can see that he is a very very good person. He always puts nobodies on on his socials and shows love to his fans. But yo I do like Meek Mill, and we don’t take part in any stupid beef.

DANCE : Meek Mill is a great rapper and a great lyricist but for me, no one compares to Drake. The 6 God is not only a rapper, he can sing and dance, he has good taste in music and is surrounded by all the best producers. He always surprises me, he’s a genius. The type of rapper who can change the game, the whole music industry. I’ve been listening to him since Comeback Season in 2007. He’s actually a big fan of J. Dilla like I am. To be honest, it is my dream to collaborate with him.

Don’t miss these guys on the rest of their tour!
