Holy g-house heaven. Those are the first words that came to mind after listening to Dan Farber’s “Gangsta Shit” EP, which just came out on Dim Mak today.
The EP’s lead single of the same name features vocals from Ice Cube’s classic “Hello,” which is perfectly timed with the industry’s current N.W.A/Straight Outta Compton obsession. Talk about making relevant music, go Dan.
I often times find myself offended by the mixture of dance music and rap, because too often it isn’t executed well at all. Case in point – all producers who think 2Pac and Tropical House go hand in hand…but I digress. Dan Farber’s EP perfectly blends the old school hip-hop vibes with groovy house basslines, totally nailing the whole purpose of g-house as genre.
“After unveiling his “Gangsta Shit” single of the same name, acclaimed trap / bass producer Dan Farber is back flexxin’ his hip-hop production prowess with his G-House concept opus, the Gangsta Shit EP. His innate ability to texturize his tracks with groove-oriented basslines and retro ear-candy jingles no doubt comes from his genuine love for the rap game. The 4-track offering is an assemblage of melodic, West Coast G-Funk inspired synth patterns, carefully layered with hip-hop one-liners and sinister bass lines”.
