Get Groovy On the Dance Floor With AKKI & ZEV’s Remix of “Roxanne”

Taking on an old-school classic is never an easy feat, but the newly-formed, Brooklyn-based duo, AKKI x ZEV, aren’t afraid to take on a challenge head on and deliver a stunning result. After meeting at Mysteryland USA this year, where both AKKI and ZEV performed, the two solo artists decided to come together to make some great music, and they’ve chosen to take on one of the most legendary rock bands, The Police, for their latest project.

Few can argue that “Roxanne” is not one of the most iconic rock tracks of all time, so when AKKI and ZEV decided to infuse The Police’s historic rock anthem with a nu-disco flavor, I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out, but after the first listen, I was immediately blown away. It’s clear that AKKI and ZEV know their history, because they have essentially left Sting’s vocals untouched, rather, they chose to work their magic on the production beneath the emblematic topline. Groovy synth arrangements come together with a cleverly chopped and screwed vocal sample and a hypnotic bassline to give “Roxanne” an undeniable danceability that will have you grooving on the dance floor until the early morning. This one is up as a free download, so snag it here.
