Sander van Doorn Releases “Rage” Collaboration + Exclusive Interview

The funny thing is that I’ve done about 23 Sensations throughout my career and this year I’m doing a lot of Sensations so that’s going to be pretty crazy as well.

TSS: You just recentely wrapped up your Canadian bus tour with Firebeatz and Julian Jordan. Can you tell us about that and how it was for you?

SVD: Best tour ever. It was eleven days in a row, ten shows, and very intense. You know with a great crew and like you said, with the guys from Firebeatz and obviously Julian Jordan was there as well. We toured across Canada, pretty much did the whole country from right to left and it was absolutely insane you know. We made a new track in the bus as well so we were actually being productive between the shows and party. We’re already planning another one.

TSS: You got young guys Martin Garrix, Oliver Heldens, Thomas Newson, Julian Calor, and as you already mentioned Julian Jordan to stardom. As someone who has, for a long mentored up-and-coming stars, what are your thoughts on that?

SVD: It’s a big change you know, this whole new generation. It makes me feel old but it’s pretty pretty crazy. Kids of those ages, for instance Oliver Heldens producing such quality tracks you know. I’m happy to be one of the inspirations for guys such as Oliver Heldens and this whole new generation breaking through is pretty amazing.

TSS: As you mentioned at the start, you produced a track on the bus with Firebeatz and Julian Jordan tited “Rage”. What was that like?

SVD: You usually are used to your studio, your studio speakers, and yeah its a completely different environment. Its very messy, people walking around, cleaning in front of you while your producing a track It was pretty rock and roll producing that track but we managed to do a lot in the bus. We actually finished the track though in my studio and the studio of Firebeatz so at the end it was pretty easy to produce the track.

TSS: You have recently played in Indonesia and India. As you travel through these countries and other new ones do you see a difference? What are the experiences like for you as you travel through them?

SVD: Completely different! We are speaking about countries like Indonesia and India. I’ve already played those countries before and India was absolutely insane but I did New Years over in Vietnam where I’ve never been before. Even there, there’s an EDM scene these days so it’s crazy to see how much the scene has grown throughout the years and it’s still growing today. Look at South America, there is so many countries out there. I did around 2-3 new countries last year and there are new countries on my schedule as well, so it’s just growing and growing. I haven’t seen the end yet.

TSS: You’ve recently been announced for the first ‘Don’t Tell Daddy’ show in the UK. Hows that for you?

SVD: I’ve played Don’t Let Daddy Know a few times in Holland and over in Ibiza. It’s a really unique concept, all about energy and it’s very EDM. Even the dutch crowds go completely insane so it’s a real strong brand and I’m really happy to be on board for that one this year in the UK.

TSS: Festival season is quickly approaching with events such as Ultra, Coachella, EDC, and more. Are you excited, and is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to?

SVD: I’m excited! I’m doing a lot of EDC’s this year as well as some other things that I can’t mention. The funny thing is that I’ve done about 23 Sensations throughout my career and this year I’m doing a lot of Sensations so that’s going to be pretty crazy as well.

TSS: The EDM seems is quickly evolving as you know through explosion of with Progressive house, Dubstep, Big room, and now Deep House. What is your take on this, as an artist do you feel like you have to transition into these genres to stay relevant?

SVD: Yes, absolutely. It’s all about renewing yourself you know. It’s important to have your own sound, luckily my sound is overall very broad so I can make many different styles of music. Never actually did something with Dubstep but some tracks sound more housey, other tracks more progressive. I love to use melody, I just produced a new track with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano which is a very melodic track. The music genres are going left, right, and center. I’ve always loved to be in the middle and I can still do that these days.

TSS: We are only 2 months in so far this year, is there anyone specifically you think the public should keep an eye on for the rest of 2015?

SVD: Pep and Rash, best duo. Definitely ones to watch. I’ve heard a few of their new tracks, insane. Did a collaboration with them as well back in January and it’s going to be pretty surprising. I used a track of the 60’s and gave it a new style but yeah, Pep and Rush are definitely ones to watch. Besides that, this whole new generation.

TSS: As many know, you also have your own record label, Doorn Records, how is that going for you and how do you go about the next release?

SVD: First of all, my label became the fourth biggest label in the world on Beatport last year so that called for a big celebration. Personally I think the strength of Doorn Records is that I really like to hear new music, new ideas, original producers so I usually end up with the new kids because they have fresh minds. I’ve been doing this for years, started off just releasing my own tracks but then people sent me their own stuff more and more so I took this whole new role being A&R as well scouting artists through the whole process. I’ve learned from that as well, and the label has been growing ever since, but it’s definitely a platform for unique and original music.

TSS: To conclude our interview, we’ll ask the usual concluding question for interviews. What can we expect from Sander van Doorn for the rest of 2015?

SVD: I’ve had a really good studio run in Janurary so I’m going to be playing a lot of my new tracks, and a lot on Doorn Records. We’re going to make it a really great party, definitely!
