The Northeast Coast of the United States has been getting slammed with frigid temperatures and snow for quite some time now, but New York City manages to heat things up by bringing in the biggest names in electronic dance music. Friday night I paid my first visit to New York City’s newest premier nightclub Space Ibiza New York! Since opening its doors back in September, they have hosted big names such as Duke Dumont, Ferry Corsten, Max Vangeli and Borgeous. As you can see their events have been STACKED with talent and on this bitterly cold Friday night our favorite Australian twins, NERVO were making their debut!

It had been quite some time since NERVO paid a visit to The Big Apple so I can’t say I was surprised to see the line into Space going down the street. When I arrived to West 50th Street I noticed Space Ibiza New York didn’t look like much of a nightclub from the outside, it gives off that old school warehouse vibe which is a nice touch. Pierre Toma warmed up the crowd (literally and figuratively) before NERVO took the helm.

Now keep in mind these two haven’t played in the city since September (Electric Zoo) and their birthday was just a few days prior, so I had a feeling their set was going to be something special and I couldn’t be more right! The crowd erupted when girls got behind the pioneers and their “The Way We See The World” acapella intro blared through the speakers, the party had officially begun. They went on to drop bombs on the crowd such as their mashup of “Hold On vs. Revolution”, Frankie Sanchez’s bootleg of “Tsunami”, “Not Taking This No More“, and Third Party’s remix of “Somebody To Love”. Mim would go on and take the mic letting the crowd know how good it felt to be playing a sweaty intimate club set again.

Now remember when I said this was going to be a special night? Well this is when the girls took the Space crowd to another level. They brought Duane Harden to preform “Sunshine Thru Rain Clouds” live! Oh, but that’s not all my friends. Besides dropping their latest single “It Feels”, they premiered a brand new track! Hopefully it’s their next single because I have to admit its tune and a half. (My guess is the track is titled “Hot Mess” and no it wasn’t their Cobra Starship remix.) The girls were feeding off the crowd’s energy and things were start to get hot and heavy as the night went on. It could only be described as madness, Darude’s “Sandstorm” even made an appearance! I’ve mentioned in the past that when it comes DJ duos communication is key and I must say Nervo’s communication was superb!

They always said time flies when you’re having fun so before you know it “Reason” was pumping through speakers and I knew the end was near. Mim mentioned how great it felt to play tracks everyone knew and even declared New York City their favorite place to play in the United States! NERVO had officially blew the roof off of Space Ibiza New York!

As for Space Ibiza New York, I highly recommend paying a visit whenever you have the opportunity. Not only does it have a phenomenal sound system, the visuals and disco balls are a sight to see. It was a mature, music loving crowd and there was plenty of room to dance whether you’re a shuffler or a jumper. Thanks again to our friends over at Space NYC for the hospitality.
