Event Review: Excision at The Palladium – Los Angeles, CA

Holy f*&%^$g BASS. That’s all we have to say about the Excision tour, which we just caught in LA last week. The lineup was completely stacked with opening sets from Definitive, Protohype and Minnesota before Excision took the stage for nearly two hours.

With such strong openers, we knew heading to the venue early would be necessary. We arrived around 10:30, halfway through Protohype’s set. The venue was already pretty packed with SoCal bassheads (our fav type of crowd, but hey we might be biased). Protohype threw down an epic set, and his home crowd thoroughly enjoyed having him back in town for a show. Next up was Minnesota, who I had never had the pleasure of seeing live. He dropped tons of his best known tracks including “Be Alright,” “Voyager” and his new remix of Bassnectar’s “Open Up.” He had a diverse set which included some chill dubstep and drum and bass, a perfect way to get the crowd warmed up as the PK speakers were getting set up.

And then finally it was Excision time. You could basically feel the vibrations the second he took the stage. His signature Executioner video/lighting stage setup and the 150,000 Watts of PK Sound were just as were as crazy as you’ve heard. With arguably one of the heaviest sets I’ve seen in a long time, Excision kept the crowd headbanging and raging the entire time he was behind the decks. He dropped lots of songs of his new album Codename X, among other bass-heavy hitters including Knife Party’s “Give It Up” and Krewella’s “Party Monster”. One of our fav parts of the show was the visuals that were displayed when X dropped “Robo Kitty,” his new track with Downlink – pic above!
