Erick Orroquieta, aka Deorro, made his first appearance in the spotlight of dance music back in 2013 when his viral hit, “Yee,” became a festival necessity. One year later, the LA-based producer toured worldwide to spread his trademark bouncing electro style and build up the name of his PandaFunk brand. With hits like “Unspoiled Perfection,” “Five Hours,” and his eclectic Boombox EP breaking down walls, Deorro made full use of his time in 2014 to assert himself as one of dance music’s most creative individuals. But just like most artist, Deorro began his journey remixing some of the hottest tracks on the Internet. We here at This Song Slaps have picked our 5 favorite remixes of Deorro to showcase his finesse at reworking originals into his own creations.
• Gareth Emery Feat. Krewella – Light & Thunder (Deorro Remix)
Gareth Emery & Krewella’s original, “Lights & Thunder,” stirs a whirlwind of progressive and electro elements into an aggressive yet melodic track. Deorro keeps this blend of genres at the core of his remix, but he implements a fuel-injected vocal drop to keep heads bouncing along with a couple other surprises sprinkled throughout.
• Felix Cartal – New Scene (Deorro Remix)
One of progressive house’s finest, Felix Cartal, employed the help of Orroquieta to remix his single, “New Scene,” and Deorro delivered a passionate re-imagining of the original, complete with a deeper, bounce-saturated drop.
• Chuckie & Junxterjack – Make Some Noise (Deorro Remix)
The original king of Dutch House, Chuckie, found Deorro over 2 years ago when Deorro remixed his single with Junxterjack, “Make Some Noise.” As the name suggests, the rowdy original already kept the energy going, but Deorro lets his talent shine with subtle touches of his signature style to make sure his sound is being heard.
• Laidback Luke feat. Majestic – Pogo (Deorro Remix)
One of his first remixes under his rebranded name, Deorro had the chance to flip the legendary Laidback Luke’s already bounce-inspired single, “Pogo,” and inject a different, distorted snarling drop that showed his true artistic versatility.
• Steve Aoki – Ooh ft. Rob Roy (Deorro Remix)
Deorro’s style is best suited for crowds and parties, but probably his most party-ready song is his remix of Steve Aoki’s “Ooh.” Deorro takes Aoki’s electro-blasting synth work and reworks it into a dance-ready bounce-fest.
