How do you follow up a smash hit so globally recognized that it was bigger than Thrift Shop and Call Me Maybe? By putting a psychedelic spin on trap music and bringing along the toast of old school hip hop. “Hangover” might be somewhat chaotic with all the crazy sound effects whizzing across the spectrum, but hidden beneath all the zaniness is one of the Doggfather’s better verses in what feels like a decade. Snoop is on point as he spits game to the trippy trap beat that puts amateur production to shame. Forget everything you’ve ever heard about “future trap” this is the real deal.
Of course PSY is back with all the swagger and goofy charm that made him so likable in the first place. “Gangnam Style” feels like a warm up to “Hangover”, the glorious second act follow up that exceeds and expands on the PSY style in every sense. If you were wondering if PSY was destined to be a one hit wonder, let this track be an emphatic NO.
