Skrillex is probably the most iconic figure in all of Electronic music, and if you were lucky enough to have shown up to his Red Rocks show, you would know why. With a line-up of pretty much entirely headlining acts, people were set up to see some of the best that electronic music has to offer. Starting off the event was a local DJ, Fury, who is an awesome dude. I once got to talk to him while doing a Dodge and Fuski interview at Beta. He’s been in the scene for a long time and got to show off his incredible mixing skills to get things underway. Followed by an incredible set from Milo and Otis was one of my favorites in all of EDM right now, What So Not. Emoh Instead is the perfect complement to Flume when it comes to production, and the end result is always gold. Almost every song dropped is something I’ve totally grown attached to. Tennis Court Remix, Jaguar, The Quack and on and on I friken love these two.
After What So Not it was RL Grime’s turn to bring the bass. With so many hits, RL Grime tracks are dropped at pretty much every event I go to. Love Sosa is like a trap anthem. RL grime is so impressive because he has the ability to write all different varieties of music and do an amazing job at it. I saw his set as Clockwork a few months back and was just as blown away. I definitely have tons of respect for him as an artist, but I was a little upset he would not let photographers into the pit. :( Bringing Emoh back out on the stage, RLG closed out his set with his collab What So Not hit, Tell Me.
Pusha T was next up on the bill. Pusha has some of the most insane beats produced by some biggest names in the music scene. Numbers on the Board absolutely murders. Burial by OWSLA’s Yogi ft. Pusha T definitely is loved all throughout the EDM community. He was definitely an awesome choice to lead up to the main act Skrillex!
The alien curtain was drawn up and tension set in the air as everyone awaited one of the best producers in the world to blow their tops off. Bob Marley tried to set us at ease while the mothership got ready to take flight. Finally a countdown timer came up on the big screen and a beautiful intro came on to announce that the time had finally come. The beat built and built until finally the curtain came down and the crowd let out an ear splitting roar as Skrillex dropped an amazing remix of Try It Out.
Skrillex is inspiring to say the least. Never once trying to act like someone he’s not, the message is clear that you are not alone in the world. Shout outs to “those that feel like an alien sometimes” made everyone feel like they were all part of something bigger than just an amazing show. The visual crew obviously put their heart and soul into making this event something memorable. I totally agree with Sonny when he said that Red Rocks is like a combination of something out of Lion King and Mars. Dropping classic songs like Kill Everybody and Cinema, to new bangers like F*ck That and NRG. This was such an amazing show that I am so grateful to have been a part of.
