Press play and get ready to go on adventure as Vaski explores new sounds with his debut EP on SMOG, “The Explorer.” Ever since his release of “Ready 2 Bounce,” Vaski has been on to something good and hitting me with his music in all the right places- “The Explorer” EP is no exception. The intro tune, “Jumpsuit,” is like testing the waters and feeling out the vibes. At first you think it’s going to be mellow as you move along to the soft melody, but then all of a sudden the build begins to tense and soon you’re on a wild progressive house ride. As you began to sink deeper into the music and into “Game of Cards,” featuring Betty Borderline, the bad ass vibes start to radiate with every bounce of the beat. It’s finally when the drop hits and the dubstep wobbles kick in do you dive head into everything Vaski’s got. As “The Nile,” begins to play next, you’re eased back up to the surface with a chill reggae tone and fun glitch hop flare. It’s when “Can’t Bring Me Down,” starts to play do we enter the way of the dub with it’s grimey wobbles and big bass. To round us up on this Vaski venture, we enter “Radium,” which has a fun disco/ glitch vibe and “Mars” which reminds of what I imagine is what floating in space is like- the synths, the melody, and the grime radiating off the bass have me feeling out of this world. Like I said before- this EP is and adventure and one you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
