I’ve never seen Mat Zo live (I will this summer), but I was curious to hear what one of his sets were like and I’m very surprised. Mat Zo plays a lot of different genres in his set, which is very cool to hear from a producer I have a lot of respect for. The coolest moment for me in this set was undoubtedly when he played Zeddd’s ‘Shave It’ then transitioned into ‘Contact’ by Daft Punk, before bringing Zedd’s hit back in for the second drop. All in all listening to this set has got me very excited to see him this summer at Veld. Check the full tracklist after the jump!
I’ve been waiting on this one for a long time now. Naturally, I gravitate towards anything that says trap, but a mix labeled “Girl Trapz,” you know I’m going to be quick on the play and even quicker on the like. Although volume three aired previously on Diplo and Friends a couple weeks back, it’s with its release yesterday I truly fell in love. Packed with 47 tracks that evoke not only an insane amount of booty bouncing, but big bass and some serious girl power. From tracks like Missy Elliot and Ciara’s “1,2 Step” to Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” to even Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s “Dilemma,” Benzi knows how to cover a wide variety while keeping the transitions smooth. I’ve also always been impressed with his ability to also throw it back to some old school tunes and bring back some killer memories. Lucky for us listeners, Benzi will have a bi-monthly residency on Diplo and Friends and Get Right Records Radio to keep the jams coming all summer long. So ladies take a listen, and guys don’t be scared to let loose and just enjoy the tunes.

A-Minor is one of the few remaining EDM producers that still spins live vinyl and that is easily the most impressive part of this mix. The scratching in this mix is unreal, as are the transitions and the track selection. Overall I think this might be my favorite mix that we’ve gotten to premiere on this site.
I also had the chance to meet with A-Minor and ask him a few questions:
TSS: Who are you? (Introduce yourself)
A-Minor: I am DJ A-Minor of the Jukebox Heroes DJ crew. My name is Andre and I’m a libra. I’m not quite sure what that means, I’ve never been into that shit. I’m a Tar Heel. I’m based in Charlotte, NC. I grew up in NJ, MI and NC. And I’m an ass man.TSS: What came first, DJing or producing?
A-Minor: DJing came first. I had opportunities to learn to produce earlier on in my career, but I wanted to get comfortable with my skill level as a DJ before I split my attention.TSS: What initially drew you towards a career in music?
A-Minor: A combo of loving music and dumb luck. I’ve been involved in music in some way since I was about 5. Music then took a backseat to sports and classes for a long time. My DJ career started with pushing buttons in a dining hall on campus at Carolina when I did a favor for a friend with a mobile DJ business. There was really no skill involved in what I was doing, they just didn’t want there to be a break in the music. I took a few more gigs and one night he had me keep the CDJs (I use that term loosely) overnight at my place. After just messing with them a while, I blended 2 songs perfectly and completely by accident. I was up til probably 6am just figuring it out. I immediately started saving for turntables and ended up with a pair of numarks, the equivalent of a store brand mixer and a hand me down record collection. Then it was just practice all the time. It still blows my mind that I get paid to do this.TSS: Describe your life in BPM and say why.
A-Minor: 98 BPM sounds about right. You can have chill music, and some stuff with the highest energy you can find. My life has had some crazy ups and dark downs so I think the wide range of good songs at that tempo matches well with my experiences. And, even though it becomes a rarity to come across at times, it never goes out of style.TSS: Festivals or shows?
A-Minor: Shows, definitely. Festivals tend to suck ass after the first day. You can only hear the top 10 on beatport so many times before you want to smash your head against something. Plus, I’m a fan of people keeping up with their personal hygiene and that just doesn’t happen at a lot of festivals.TSS: Any advice to upcoming producers/DJ’s?
A-Minor: If you produce great shit and you want to DJ, that’s great, but learn to fucking DJ. Makes me sick when people get paid ungodly money to train wreck for an hour. And when you produce, make what you would want to hear, not what’s already hot. Originality is more likely to lead to longevity than hopping on the bandwagon.TSS: Fuck, kill, marry: Flosstradamus (they come as a pair), Carnage, and Amanda Bynes
A-Minor: Fuck Amanda Bynes because I take risks in life.
Kill Flosstradamus (sorry guys) because one spouse will be quite enough.
Marry Carnage, process of elimination. Depending on how well the Amanda Bynes thing goes, hope he’s cool with keeping some rachets around the crib.TSS: What’s in your traveling DJ bag?
A-Minor: Serato Records. A few 12″ vinyl singles (I swap them out from time to time). Needles. Laptop. External HD. Extra audio cords. Dicers. Aleeve. Pepto Bismol Chewables (nothing worse than bubble guts halfway into a 4 hour set). Stickers. Knife. iPhone charger.TSS: What is your favorite liquor?
A-Minor: Tequila.TSS: If you weren’t a DJ, what would you be?
A-Minor: Unemployed.TSS: Who do you want to collaborate with the most right now?
A-Minor: Disclosure, they piss excellence.TSS: Would you rather fight 1 horse sized duck, or 100 duck sized horses?
A-Minor: 1 horse sized duck. Sweet and Sour Duck for DAYS!!

So for those of you who didn’t get to tune into BBC Radio 1 last night, Skrillex put on a massive 2 hour essential mix! It’s no secret that Skirllex is my favorite producer out there, so I may be a little biased in saying this but, this was the most amazing essential mix ever. Everyone expected it to be typical old Skrillex playing Scary Monsters and Bangarang. But what people don’t realize is Skrillex didn’t go away to create the same old music. He took some time off to produce some crazy new sounds and tracks and as a fan and music lover I was more than pleased with what I heard. Not only did he play some new tracks and some Dog Blood edits, but the overall selection of songs and genres he covered was incredible. The transitions were perfect and almost unnoticeable. It’s crazy how that man made 2 hours seem like 5 minutes. Needless to say I was blown away so take a listen below, check out the crazy track list and start your Saturday off right! Enjoy!

So Vaski’s mix from our online festival was FANTASTIC. With low, growling wobbles and lots of ear pleasuring bass music, his set was a BIG success. Vaski has always been a fan favourite at TSS and he absolutely tore up his set. If you’re looking for an hour of seamless dubstep, with a brilliant tracklist and flawless mixing, this is the place to look. One of my favourite moments in the entire mix was when he pitted Flux Pavillion’s ‘I Can’t Stop’ against Brittany Spears vocals. You wouldn’t expect the two to work, but it just goes to show his creativity, and it actually comes out very well. Make sure to check the tracklist after the jump!

The South’s hottest artists are all over this mix, expect to hear the likes of Future, Rocko, Waka Flocka, T.I., Migos and more on this hour long ride through the A! Everyone who knows me knows that im a sucker for southern trap rap. This mix provides the perfect turn up for any party you may be attending. This is that REAL TRAP MUSIC. Aye!!

I think the name Summer Twerk Mix says it all, but in case you’re unaware of the side effects of music that fits this description, let me elaborate. Released last night from Zooly, I couldn’t contain the overwhelming need to just lose it to these infectious tunes in my room for a late night twerkfest. That’s right, I said it… twerkfest. Filled with tracks like “Bubble Butt,” from Major Lazer to Brillz’s remix of “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” to even Baauer’s remix of “Attracting Flies,” it’s safe to say the booties were bouncing and the bass was bumping. I can guarantee you this mix will stay at the top of my playlist this summer and become a party play must to keep the energy high and the twerk alive. Here’s to the Summer of Twerk 2013.
Alright, so in celebration of our brand new site launching, we have a very special surprise for all you lovely people. Our friends Showtek were kind enough to send us this MONSTROUS mix as well as an interview giving us some insight into how the spend their spare time and their creative process. Showtek have been tearing the industry up right now with their stadium filling shows, and their unique tracks that set the crowd off! The mix touches upon some brilliant tunes like their recent hit ‘Slow Down’, as well as other bangers from the likes of W&W, Knife Party, Deoro, and Tiesto. Be sure to send Showtek some love for hooking us up and check out the interview and tracklist after the break!
It’s been quite a while since we posted an episode of Hardwell on Air, and I try to keep an eye on a weekly basis for episodes that I particularly like, and this week’s episode knocked it right out of the park for me. With some brilliantly crafted mashups, as well as some other great tracks and even a feature on our dude Henry Fong’s track ‘Stand Up (Halftime)’, I knew I had to share. For whatever your plans are this weekend, Hardwell’s got us covered as usual.
