Looks like the 1/2 man 1/2 machine himself, Butch Clancy, has returned to the dubstep world after taking a brief hiatus into the world of trap with his amazing remix of Rihanna’s “Stay” released just now and available for free download. Although Butch has made some INSANE trap tracks over the past few months all released for free on his A Beautiful Mind EP, I think dubstep is truly where his heart is at; especially after hearing this remix. You’d think will.i.am would have learned his lesson by now having had three previous plagiarism accusations with Deadmau5, Adam Freeland and Boys Noize, but he’s back at it again this time ripping off ARTY & Mat Zo.
Last week American producer will.i.am released his tune record “Let’s Go” featured Chris Brown, and shortly after the release, EDM producers ARTY & Mat came forward declared that will.i.am stole a huge portion of their dance track “Rebound” after they refused to work with him on his new record.
Shortly after the release, will.i.am spoke on the accusation and admitted to have sampled “Rebound” in his new record on Kiss FM:
“Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to Rebound this last year.
“I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him… but something happened and hopefully we can resolve the issue.
It’s sad that it’s turned into a fiasco but hopefully it’s resolved, because I’m a fan of those guys. I contacted them last year and we’re fixing it now.”
Yesterday, will.i.am sat down with Assosiated Press and claimed to be unfairly accused of stealing a song from ARTY & Mat Zo for use on his new album. First he admits to sampling the songs and then claims to be unfairly accused? Sounds like a mess to me. You can watch the full interview below.
“If you look on the album, there is credit. You can’t steal if you credit someone.”
“And a lot of times, the community, for the sake of the art, bonds with each other. Why would I do that? I’m a part of the music community, and the community is small.”
Clearly will.i.am’s logic is impeccable and should not be questioned. What a joke! The music community may bond together over collaborations, but in this particular situation, ARTY & Mat Zo turned will.i.am down and he proceded to steal their creative property to make a career (and financial) gain in the music industry.
The bottom line and what we can take away from this situation, is that will.i.am has not learned his lesson in stealing, or “sampling” creative property, even with the lawsuits that resulted as a consequence after stealing from Adam Freeland. will.i.am is using his well-established stature in the music industry (6.3 million Facebook fans) to steal, or “sample,” from smaller artists without giving them the credit they deserve.

After having two extremely successful years at Las Vegas Motor Speedway since moving from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2011, Insomniac, the production company who puts on the amazing three day Electric Daisy Carnival music festival, says that EDC 2014 may not happen due to Las Vegas Live Entertainment Tax issues.
“Insomniac loves doing business in Las Vegas, and right now our primary focus is producing the best show for the fans who will attend Electric Daisy Carnival on June 21, 22 and 23. While we would love to bring another festival to Nevada, we are tabling any further discussions until the state Legislature settles the Live Entertainment Tax issue.”
Over the past two years when this event has taken place, Nevada’s Live Entertainment Tax has not been applied to massive events taking place outdoors such as EDC. Unfortunately, the Nevada State Legislature is revisiting the policies of LET to possibly start applying the taxation to outdoor events.
In 2012, Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival generated $207 million for Clark County, NV, and if this 10% taxation were to be applied, EDC would forfeit up to $9.5 million of their revenue.
If you haven’t been to EDC at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, I highly recommend grabbing your three-day pass for EDC 2013 before the event is gone for good.
