This is what we like to hear about – the dance music scene coming together to do its best to change the world.
Nap Girls, a collective of women in the dance music industry who advocate gender equality, along with Los Angeles tastemaker party, Space Yacht, have joined forces to facilitate a canned food drive to benefit LA charity organization, Westside Food Bank. This initiative has cleverly been named “CANZ A MAKE HER DANCE.”
Space Yacht, if you’re unfamiliar, is a rad weekly party, usually held at Golden Box in Hollywood, where dance music insiders and fans come to network and enjoy music from both well-known and up-and-coming DJ talent every Tuesday night. The party has featured artists like Steve Aoki b2b Autoerotique, Anna Lunoe, and Valentino Khan on the decks. Other DJs sometimes make surprise appearances like Skrillex, A-Trak, and Jauz, who have all attended the event before in their free time.
Every Tuesday for the remainder of November, Space Yacht and Nap Girls are pooling their resources to encourage patrons to help give back to the community. By asking attendees to donate one can of food in exchange for entry to the venue, the NG and SY crews believe they can come up with hundreds of cans to benefit the Westside Food Bank, just in time for the holidays.
